Discover Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

Santa Teresa is located in the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica on the Pacific Coast. The towns of Mal Pais, Playa Carmen, Santa Teresa, and Playa Hermosa are all close and connected by one main road on the coast and often blend together. Consequently, the area provides a variety of restaurants, bars, stores, beaches, and surf breaks to choose from. The area is surrounded by jungle and hills providing beautiful landscapes and an abundance of wildlife including howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, iguanas, many different species of birds, and much more. Depending on the time of year you can see humpback or blue whales breaching and turtles nesting on the beach. Moreover, being on the coast you have spectacular sunsets year round.

Because it’s in the jungle and quite remote, Santa Teresa and the surrounding area has a distinct laid-back vibe; things work at a slower pace. Having no paved and bumpy roads also adds a distinct element to the area. It attracts the outdoorsy type looking for a more authentic experience but still able to have some of the luxuries from home. There are a variety of activities to participate in as well, which appeal to the adventure-seeking type.  Furthermore, there are waves 365 days of the year allowing plenty of surfing time with various breaks to choose from depending on level and experience. See our Tours and Activities page for more information.
